  • Thinking of Linking

My club has been approached by another organization who is interested in linking with our repeater system. We currently link our two systems (about 30 air-miles apart) via a remote base, but if we?re going to link with another system also, we might as well do it right.

My first thought is to put a link radio (440 MHz) at my distant site (with a CAT-1000) and install a link radio at my local site (also a CAT-1000) and at the other clubs site (controller unknown at this time). Unfortunately, (as near as I can tell) this only allows us to link 2 of the three repeaters at one time (since the link radio would not be running duplex.) This leads me to think that we?d need to use two link radios at my distance site? one for each of the other repeaters. Am I thinking about this right, or is my thought process getting plugged up?

    Helpful thoughts/suggestions welcome!

    73,
    Mike

    Hello Mike,

If all 3 repeaters are within range of each other, you could use a common UHF simplex frequency at each repeater location.
